Repositories
Import a public GitHub repository and browse it offline, read-only.
Node can download a snapshot of a public GitHub repository and keep it beside your notes. It is useful for reference material such as documentation repos, cheat sheets and payload collections.
A snapshot is read-only, and nothing in a repository is ever executed.
Import a repository
- Click Import from GitHub in the sidebar's Repositories section, or run Import GitHub Repository from the command palette.
- Paste the repository URL, or type
owner/name. - Node looks the repository up and shows what it found. Confirm with Import repository.
- Wait for the download. You can cancel at any point.
- Choose Open repository from the summary.
If the repository was imported before, Node offers Open existing or Re-import instead of creating a duplicate.
What gets downloaded
| Content | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Text files up to 1 MB | Downloaded and stored. |
| Text files over 1 MB | Listed, but not stored. Download them or open them on GitHub. |
| Images | Listed. Each one is downloaded the first time you view it, then kept. |
| Other binary files | Listed, not stored. |
| Git submodules | Skipped. |
Limits
- Public repositories only. Node sends no credentials to GitHub.
- Up to 3,000 files per repository.
- Very large repositories whose file list GitHub cuts short are refused, because a partial snapshot would silently miss files.
- GitHub limits anonymous requests per hour for your network. If you hit the limit, wait and try again.
Browse a repository
The repository appears in the sidebar with its own file tree. Its overview shows the branch, language, license, stars, forks and file count, followed by the README.
Opening a file uses the viewer that fits it:
- Markdown has Preview and Source tabs. Relative images resolve to the repository's files, and relative links open the linked file inside Node. If a file uses Markdown the preview cannot render, its source is shown instead.
- Code is shown with line numbers and syntax highlighting. Files over about 300,000 characters are shown as plain text.
- Images are displayed once downloaded.
Each file has Copy, Download and Open on GitHub actions.
Search a repository
Use Search repository from the repository's menu, or Search Current Repository in the command palette. Results are grouped into matching file names and paths, then matches inside files. Only the first match per file is listed.
Keep it up to date
- Sync fetches the repository's current state and replaces the local snapshot.
- Remove from Node deletes the local snapshot. The repository on GitHub is never touched.
Right-click a repository in the sidebar for these actions, plus Open on GitHub and Copy repository URL.
Snapshots are stored in the browser
Imported repositories are kept in this browser's storage, not in data/pages/. They are available offline after import, but only in the browser that imported them.
