Search and the command palette
Jump to any page, run any command, or search the full text of your notes.
Command palette
Press Ctrl K (⌘ K on macOS), or Ctrl Shift P, or click Search in the sidebar.
With nothing typed, the palette lists your recent pages. As you type, it shows matching pages, matching files from imported repositories, and commands.
Commands
| Group | Commands |
|---|---|
| Navigation | Go Home, Recent, Favorites, All pages, Calendar, Open Tasks, Settings |
| Create | New Page, New Workspace, New Folder, New Task |
| Current page | Rename, Duplicate, Favorite, Move, Export Markdown, Delete |
| Current repository | Search Current Repository, Open Repository README, Open Repository on GitHub |
| Workspace | Reload Pages from Disk, Import GitHub Repository, Import Markdown, Toggle Theme |
Commands for the current page or repository only appear while one is open.
Full search
The Search page looks through every page's title, headings and body text. Open it from the palette with Search all pages for "…".
How results are matched and ordered:
- Every word you type must appear somewhere in the page, in its title or its text.
- Title matches rank highest, then heading matches, then matches in the body.
- Pages with the same score are ordered by most recently updated.
- Each result shows where the page lives and the passage that matched, with your terms highlighted.
- Up to 20 results are shown.
Search reads Markdown as a reader would see it: frontmatter, link targets, code fences and formatting marks are ignored.
The first search can take a moment
Node only reads a page's text when it is needed. Titles match instantly, but searching body text has to read every file once per session.
Searching a repository
Imported repositories have their own search, covering file names and file contents. See Repositories.
